The Coburg Bar, perched at the front of The Connaught Hotel, is classic London at its finest. Swathed in deep rich colours and soft fabrics, this is one seriously plush and luxurious experience. While it isn’t as shiny as the Connaught Bar, the old world charm makes it a destination in its own right.
The cocktail menu focuses on the classics, taking you through the history of drink over the past two centuries (a treat for any cocktail nerd). The Martinez is exceptional, and the seasonal cocktail Spicy Shrubbler isn’t quite hot but the notes of port make it a well-rounded libation. The drinks come out on stone trays with a couple of fruit skewers for nibbles. And if you don’t tuck into their bar bites menu, worry not, they’ll keep those bowls of olives and homemade crisps full to the brim.
The crowd is unsurprisingly Mayfair-heavy, so come in your finer digs and revel in the five-star service and comfy surroundings.
Best Bars tip: The best seats in the house are either by the fire or the window — a particularly enviable spot as you can watch the dancing water fountain while £100k+ cars roll by.
