One of the most elegant drinking spots in town, Mr Cooper’s House and Garden takes you on a luxury experience (without the stuffiness). The bar — set in Simon Rogan’s slightly more casual eatery in The Midland Hotel — is light and airy, with leafy touches to keep the garden theme going.
Drinks take inspiration from the Michelin-starred chef and often incorporate house-infused spirits like the not-so-spicy and just a bit frothy Paper Plane to Mexico, made with chipotle-infused Reposado Tequila, Aperol, Amaro Nonino and served with a dehydrated orange dust. Oh yeah, and there’s a tiny paper plane garnish. And if you want to feel the love of summer try the Turn of the Century (New Beginnings) with gin, lemon, Lillet Blanc, Creme de Cacao and of course, an edible flower. It’s superbly bright and refreshing and will wash away any thoughts of rainy days.
This is the perfect place for daytime (or night-time) drinking, and will no doubt impress whomever you bring along for the trip.
Best Bars tip: Make a day of it — come early for a pre-lunch tipple in the library then stick around for gourmet dining in the indoor garden … and keep it going into the evening with cheffy and inventive cocktails. You might just feel like you’ve spent some quality time at a friendly wealthy pal’s house.
