Megaro Bar King's Cross

*This bar is now closed.*

Lights, camera, action! Open scene: welcome to Megaro Bar — the sexy and beautiful film noir-styled cocktail den below the colourfully funky Hotel Megaro upstairs. An ode to all things cinema, this artsy spot is solidifying King’s Cross as a hot boozing destination … and we’re glad for it.

The drinks menu is divided into Acts and it’s best to start with Act 1 then make your way through to the Finale. Get started with the oh so fun Fisherman’s Martini with Plymouth Gin, dry vermouth and aromatised with old man and the sea essence — seriously wet with a healthy whack of umami. And did we mention it comes served in a chilled tuna tin? To finish off your evening, you can’t do better than pairing up the Three Feet Under — cognac, truffle honey and bitters, with the sweet dish of chocolate cremosa atop peanut popcorn powder. This is one of the best pairings going — fragrant truffle on the nose, rich chocolate flavours throughout the drink and obviously, in the dessert. Try to not polish both off completely (hint: it’s impossible).

The Picture Room is a perfect private party spot, with seasonal exhibitions hung on the walls and a great atmosphere for anything from a screening to a raucous night out. And if you’re trying to impress a date, bring them into the velvety Dark Room and share a few Epicoladas — like the piña colada, but much lighter and a hell of a lot more epic.

Best Bars tip: The bar is now open until 2am on Thursdays and Fridays, so after you’ve finished pseudo sun-baking in the day — make your way down for tasty boozy refreshments and seriously friendly service.
