A tucked away establishment on Queen Street, Bramble has firmly planted its place as one of Edinburgh’s best cocktail bars. With rough white walls, low ceilings and dim lights — the setting is cosy, intimate and casual with just a hint of dive. Buzzy hip-hop tunes keep the vibe that extra bit cool, and the sheer amount of booths and quiet corners keep it sexy.
The staff are always dishing out on-point cocktails and your first must-order drink has got to be the Bramble, a fresh and slightly sweet concoction with Hayman’s London Dry Gin served over heaped crushed ice. For something a bit more wintery and straight up, try the Rosa Parks with Heaven Hill Bourbon, vermouth, orgeat, lemon and orange bitters. And if a G&T is more your speed, there’s a vast gin range that will get your mouth watering.
A place this hip and easygoing, you might not expect A-grade cocktails … but in Bramble’s capable hands, you should. And with price tags of £6.50-£7, we wouldn’t blame you for trying to work through the entire experimental menu. Just remember, this is a firm favourite in the city and even on Monday nights you’ll need to arrive early to claim a nook.
Best Bars tip: Asking bar staff for “a Martini” tends to be the start of a wonderful conversation rather than a simple drinks order, so park up at the bar to see them at work.
