Daytime drinking spot Crate Brewery fits in seamlessly to Hackney Wick’s creative scene, perched canal-side in a former print factory.
If you hadn’t already guessed, beers are the focus – Crate brews on-site and you can take a peek through to where the microbrewery magic happens. A light India Pale Ale is ideal for washing down pizzas stone-baked behind the bar, and in turn, the sage and truffle pizza comes loaded with grated potato to soak up those beers. Ciders and wines are available, but we doubt you’re visiting for those.
Upcycled furniture makes Crate rough-around-the-edges (in a Hackney Wick sort of way, of course) and the bar fills quickly with denim-clad hipsters and beer aficionados of the bearded variety.
Best Bars tip: You better get down early to bag a canal-side bench. But laid-back punters seem equally happy parking their beer-drinking butts on the concrete during sunny days.
