We all know Haggerston is achingly hip these days, but just to up it a few more notches, Fairground has come in to steal the show. Housed in a formerly derelict building, this three-storey space has gotten a few licks of paint and is now transformed into an all-day booze and music fest.
Outside in the courtyard you’ll be greeted with a patio of fake grass where you can rest your rump and chow down on Yum Jungle’s Thai spiced fried chicken. Once you head inside, you’ll find cocktail bars on each level (where you can also get fresh juices if it’s too early in the day for you). If you want something boozy and fast, snag a bottled cocktail like the Long Horse with either Woodford Reserve or Bacardi 8 Rum mixed with tonka bitters and apple juice. And you won’t be left hungry either: from perfectly charred ribs courtesy of SMOKESTAK to Baba G Bowls filled with masala fish goujons, there’s plenty of nibbles to tickle your fancy.
If you make it down on a Saturday, settle up for the night here. Get your eat on in the afternoon or early evening because then things will start to get a little loose with the crowds piling in to dance until 3am. Yep, 3am. And with cracking tunes from crazy talented DJs and performers, the night will absolutely fly by. On Sundays, there are live acoustic sets from both up-and-coming and established artists — it’s a great spot for your daily music dose.
Best Bars tip: If you want a bit of education with your pop-up, Fairground has it covered. From sessions like “How to become a professional Tweeter” to “How to get ahead in the fashion industry”, your weekend just got productive.
