The Manchester outpost of Lucha Libre is big, bright and just as tasty as it’s Liverpool brethren. A dual-level space with terraced seating inside, strung up fairy lights and a glowing backbar. If you’re feeling holy, grab a booth upstairs and say your prayers to the fluorescent cross hanging above you. The large tables and airy room makes this spot perfect for bringing all the pals along.
With food, you can’t go wrong with street food tasting platters. Why choose only one dish when you can try them all? The prawn tacos are particularly juicy with a cutting freshness from the mango. For spice fans, try the Icarus wings – but be careful, you may be out-spiced on these ones. For drinks, stick with the agave spirits. On the safer side, go for the Classic Margarita with Herradura Blanco Tequila. For a fresh and smoky number, try La Espina with La Penza Mezcal, vermouth, agave, grapefruit juice, pineapple and lemon.
And when the sun sets, Lucha Libre lights switch off and NOCHE switches on. Glow in the dark art suddenly appears and shots of tequila are thrown back by the dozen at the bar. With classic club tunes and loosened agave folk, this is one happy place to start (and end) your party.
Best Bars tip: There’s a massive cabinet of international hot sauces, so take your pick – we tried a Tequila Death Sauce. Feeling hot, hot, hot indeed.
