In the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town lies Villager, a retreat for the many local hip cats who have helped keep this place buzzing for over a decade. With a welcome from a statuesque tiger to the huge 80s style ghetto blaster, you know that Villager doesn’t just “do” quirky – it defines it.
We discovered a new guilty pleasure in the Banoffee Martini – banana meets butterscotch meets maple, creamy and simply genius. Fish stew anyone? Packed full of king prawns, haddock, mussels and salmon in a tomato and lemon sauce, it comes served with crispy kale and melted gruyere and warms you inside and out.
The two separate sides of Villager have different moods – enjoy the hustle surrounding the long bar or sit and relax in the lounger’s paradise next door.
Best Bars tip: Go for drinks, stay for dinner, carry on with cocktails. Good times guaranteed.
