This eclectic hotspot is one of Kemptown’s most popular hangouts. Outside an ever-present crowd of the town’s hippest – sipping Brooklyn beer, naturally – almost hides the charming antiquaries of The Black Dove’s interior. This is an intimate space clustered with plenty of tables, dark green walls covered almost top-to-toe with paintings and old mirrors, mountains of well-thumbed hardbacks and candlelight flickering from old bottles of wine, dripping in candlewax. It’s a striking space.
It might be one of the coolest looking bars in Brighton, but this place is all about the booze. The bar itself is a work of art, cramming in more spirits, glasses and shakers that you’d imagine possible. There’s also a large variety of beers, both bottled and on tap, most of which change from month to month. Fancy a cocktail? These bartenders really know their stuff – they whip up a mean Old Fashioned.
Basement lounge, The Snug, is another gem. This space, which can be hired for parties, is a super-cool drinking den, which continues the vintage antiques theme in its décor. The taxidermy rabbit/duck hybrid is our favourite find.
Best bars tip: Keen for a cheeky lunchtime beverage? Don’t head here – it doesn’t open until 4pm. The plus side? It does stay open late. Let the revelry commence.
