About as central a location as you can get, Pure’s interior smacks of stripped back urban edginess. Revealed wrought iron girders sit alongside old cask style woods and carpet-less concrete flooring.
A joint venture from local brewery Purity and the man behind Michelin-starred Birmingham restaurant Simpsons, it unsurprisingly specialises and excels on beer and bites. There are over 100 beers (100 beers!) to choose from, with Purity’s Long Horn IPA being the biggest seller, while every main course on the immaculate menu is cooked in a different ale or lager.
Pure is never empty, with an amiable atmosphere even when “the suits” flood in at 6pm on a Friday. Rather splendidly the bar is sizeable and well-staffed enough to cope.
Best Bars tip: Fan of US craft ales? Try yourself the 6.8% Coloradan IPA called Modus Hoperandi. Peckish? The Scotch egg is a thing of local legend.
