Northern Lights

Northern Lights, Brighton This charming bar and kitchen, a former fisherman’s house hidden away behind the town hall, is the perfect place for anyone wanting to get their fix of all things Scandinavian. As its name might suggest, Northern Lights is a Nordic-themed den, offering a selection of dishes that range from traditional meatballs and reindeer sandwiches to waffles with sour cream and lingonberry jam.

Founded by a group of homesick Scandis, this is very much an authentic experience. The drinks list epitomises this: there are over 24 different flavoured vodkas – our favourite is the slightly salty Salmiakki, but if you’re feeling brave we say try the smoky pine-infused Terva Snapsi.  Beers and ciders on offer come from Denmark, Sweden and Finland, but there are also local beers on tap. Want something a bit different? Go for the bar’s signature gin-in-a-tin, Lonkero. It’s super refreshing.

Got a birthday coming up? Book out the party space upstairs, which has space for up to 40 guests. Grab some friends, share a smörgåsbord or two and down some Aquavit. Our idea of a perfect night.

Best Bars tip: This place has a late licence until 2am and gets very busy at the weekends, so make sure you rock up early. There’s also a great patio garden.
