We’ve done a lot of cool things in London, but stepping through the fridge of The Breakfast Club never ceases to make us feel a bit special. The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town is a quirky little gem on the ever cool east London drinking scene, with appropriate exposed brick walls, stuffed elk heads and vintage fashion sketches. Just tell the upstairs staff you’re here to see the Mayor, and you’ll be taken down for a night of thrills …
On the drinks list, expect to be surprised and amazed, with a mix of excellently crafted classics and really inventive numbers. Stay local with a Spitafields Spritz – think refreshing fizz followed by the delicate spiciness of coriander and the sharpness of bitter lemon. For a sweeter sip, try the Golden Hind, with Kamm & Sons, red grapes, pressed apple, fresh sage and a kick of ginger. If you’ve resisted tucking in to some pancakes upstairs, the Mayor’s cat food won’t disappoint – the side of mac & cheese is fantastically gourmand, and the cheeseboard is so scrumptious you won’t want to share (and why should you?).
The bartenders are a good laugh, making the atmosphere fun and loud – bring a few mates and you’re in for a night to remember. Plus they also serve brunch on the weekend. We’re totally re-electing this Mayor.
Best Bars tip: The Breakfast Club’s daily 6 to 8pm happy hour is shared by the Mayor, with all drinks for a fiver. You’ll want to come at 6pm sharp though, because the space is small and fills up super quick.
