This gem of a little pub tucked behind the Oval Cricket Ground is worth a lingering visit over lunch and a few pints of cask ale. The Roebuck’s interior is cosy and beautiful and will make you want to come again and again. Good news, as it caters for so many occasions that you definitely can.
It’s tough to pick from the menu with dishes inspired by pub classics but always with a sophisticated twist to really surprise your palate. The cod cheek scampi masters the soft and crispy contrast perfectly, but if you’re really hungry and not afraid to dig in, get a pulled pork poutine. Drinks-wise you’ll find a bit of everything, from ales to cider and even an excellent cup of coffee.
This is a friendly community hub – from quiz and comedy nights to toddlers Tuesdays, The Roebuck welcomes all, and with an open fire and a conservatory, it’s great for all seasons. Pop by for a game of footie, as their large screen and chilli con carne will do nicely for any game.
Best Bars tip: Work local? The Roebuck does lunch meal deals you can order in advance and take away. Hello pulled pork baguettes …
