On a dark damp night, wandering down a deserted lane of East London, you turn your head and see a single open door leading to a blackened stairway … tempted? You should be. Discount Suit Company won’t be tailoring any suits, but the guys behind the stick will fashion you up some seriously well executed cocktails.
The bar’s short-but-sweet cocktail menu covers good ground, but it’s not just “off the peg” here – the bartenders are more than happy to tailor something to your particular taste. We were lucky enough to try head bartender Dorian’s favourite: a smoky Ardbeg whisky concoction that has shot right up in the ranks of our top tipples. For gin fans, try the Charlie Chaplin – made with apricot, lime and love. And if your tummy is getting grumbly, order yourself one of the Neal’s Yard cheese boards. It’s mmm mmm good.
It’s speakeasy vibes through and through here, with just a pinch of après-ski. And the amber lighting, exposed beams and wood interiors will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Best Bars tip: The soft glow will make you feel all kinds of radiant, so bring a date – or a mate (who you’ve got your eye on). Best to do that on the weekdays though, because the weekends here bring the party on … in the best way.
