American and Scottish is a mix of cultures you might have never given much thought, but a visit to Jake’s Place will show you how well it works. This homely bar and kitchen with a lil’ rock ’n’ roll feel is a great chilled out spot for a drink and bite away from the bustle of Princes Street.
Drinks wise, both the US and Scots are well represented with a large selection of whiskies and craft beers. If you have any issues picking, just refer yourself to the menu which lists the best bottles to match your nibbles. We suggest a Rams Head IPA if you like your ale strong and hoppy – it’s the perfect match for sticky bourbon chicken wings with the blue cheese dip.
Jake’s crowd is eclectic, with a mix of families, travellers from the hostel upstairs and friendly regulars, all cosying together in Jake’s little space of wooden benches and plain brick walls. Come in for one drink – you’ll want to stay for three.
Best Bars tip: Keep an eye out, Jake’s Place are planning to start whisky tastings in the close future …
