From lounging hotel guests to resting shoppers to executives taking meetings, the Polo Bar at The Westbury in Mayfair is a longstanding institution of this luxurious neighbourhood. With Swarovski-beaded curtains, expect a dazzling glimmer giving the art deco space that extra fancy touch.
To drink, you may want to indulge in some bubbles (it’s only apropos in such a setting) — and as champagne is a heavy-fixture on the cocktail menu, you can have the best of both worlds. The Mayfair Gold with fresh lychee, Tanqueray Gin, elderflower and a splash of Moët & Chandon Brut Rosé NV — is a sweet, fresh and hugely popular choice … we reckon the edible gold is certainly part of the draw. For something a bit heartier, try the Wild Rosemary Mule made with Ketel One vodka infused with rosemary, fresh redcurrants, lemon and topped with ginger beer. The spicy bite is ever so nice.
From nibbles to full lunches, you can keep those clients (or yourself) satiated. The sushi comes courtesy of adjacent restaurant Tsukiji — think authentic plates and seriously fresh ingredients. Or you can go for more classic posh nosh with dishes like creamy lobster bisque or Beluga caviar … the latter may break the bank, so be prepared.
Best Bars tip: For simple serves, try one of the Tanqueray No. Ten and Fever-Tree tonic botanical brews — from infusions with pink peppercorns and orange peel to savoury combos like fennel and star anise, we reckon it’s G&Tea time.
