Tucked below the hustle and bustle of tourists pounding the pavement, is the all-too charming Bedford & Strand. A firm-favourite with the Covent Garden after-work crowd (as well as anyone who has a hankering for wine) this spot is decorated with delicate touches of Edwardian style and hints of brasserie.
The wine list is especially impressive, with a healthy variety by the glass and plenty of drool-worthy bottles that won’t break the bank. One of the owners used to be an Oddbins buyer and his expertise is clear as crystal when you’re tucking into the house selections. And what best to eat with wine but cheese? You can build your own board of cheeses that are served with crackers and delectable chutney. If it’s a full meal you’re after, no need to move on out … treat yourself to some of the simple rustic dishes executed with panache.
We say, don’t neglect the cocktails here either. From classics to simple twists thereon, the staff behind the stick know what they’re doing.
Best Bars tip: This place was opened up by five pals, and that familial atmosphere is happily abundant when you’re here. And, we hear rumours this is a great spot to throw a shindig — these guys really know how to party.
