Arcade is a haggis and whisky house – that says it all. Situated just off the Royal Mile, this sophisticated (but very friendly) bar does its Scottish specials superbly.
If you’re well into whisky, or interested but don’t know where to start, take one of Arcade’s whisky tours, which allow you to sample five spirits from different parts of Scotland. The regular list is detailed with comprehensive tasting notes to help you pick what’ll accompany your grub – here the food is good and you’ll want some. The triple-layered haggis is a must-try (although if you’re not into that, the sausages and mash are an absolute beauty).
Light and warm, with a mix of modern decoration and ageing furniture, Arcade has a relaxing feel – it’s a great spot for a lengthy lunch or to take it easy with a few drams.
Best Bars tip: Climb up the stairs … you’ll stumble upon the Secret Arcade Bar, where vodka is the tipple of choice – they have over 100 varieties to choose from.
