An almost mirror image of its big brother on Thistle Street, The Bon Vivant Stockbridge has bags of French café chic. Candles guide you through the darkened interior past the rounded bar into a cosy dining area rich in feel yet bohemian in style.
The menu is updated almost daily and on our visit we went for the venison and the salmon, both perfectly cooked and served with appropriate sides and in perfect portions – which these days is actually pretty rare. Wash down your dishes of choice with a perfectly chilled bottle of the Gruner Veltliner from Austria (or whatever vino the staff guides you to). If you skip dessert, don’t skip the cocktails (we say do both). Grab a seat at the bar for a tipple or two, and try the Purple Hanky – a sloe gin concoction with dry vermouth, Fernet Branca and Maraschino.
The discerning residents of Stockbridge ensure that The Bon Vivant is a popular spot – not a surprise since the excellent food and top notch service are as standard … and the wine list is outstanding. Looking for a great fizz? Look no further.
