Living up to its name, The Jekyll & Hyde has two personalities: Mr. Hyde’s main bar and Dr. Jekyll’s gin parlour.
Mr. Hyde offers you retro sweetie jars and quirky sharing cocktails, cask ales, beers and ciders from the discerning to the boutique — while Dr. Jekyll’s gin parlour offers over 80 different types of gin from across the globe. A Victorian theme runs throughout. Gin really is the order of the day and we’re huge fans of the locally made Langley’s No.8. If you’re looking for gin with a difference, though, try The Dutch made Bols Genever, an 1820’s recipe that would really appeal to whisky drinkers.
The vibe is young and wonderfully upbeat, putting pay to gin’s nickname: mother’s ruin.
Best Bars tip: Whether you’re feeling good or evil, when the sun pokes out … it’s time to head out on to the patio.
