This relaxed spot on Bethnal Green road is just a bit a ways from the hustle and bustle of Shoreditch, but that’s what helps to keep Satan’s Whiskers a smidge more casual than the rest. Don’t be put off by the touches of twisted taxidermy, the guys and gals here are no devil worshippers. So grab a booth and settle in for one of the neighbourhood’s most easygoing haunts.
The daily-changing drink and food menus show the emphasis on fresh produce – a point that’s further underlined by the mountain of ice and fruit garnishes up on the bar. Your palate will likely be whet by the aroma wafting through the room (smoky baby back ribs are on offer from time to time).
Hip-hop beats create an aura of Brooklyn cool and we wouldn’t be surprised if after you’ve stepped out you thought you were in Williamsburg. It’s more of a contemporary pub than a speakeasy, and exactly what you’re in the mood for … a lot of the time.
Best Bars tip: Great for a low-key first date or for catching up with friends (who you want to think that you’re the most “in the know”).
