Multi-function, music-led Oslo fits the Hackney bill, with an effortlessly cool look and a unique, chic take on Scandinavia.
Local brews from the borough are championed behind the bar, with Five Points crafting a bespoke Oslo Lager – a light, hoppy option. In keeping with the bar’s name, the Nøgne IPA hails from Norway, while Brooklyn, Goose Island and Anchor Steam bolster the beer range. Bar snacks include “death by bacon” chips with bacon ketchup – what a good way to go – and a few Scandi twists add excitement to dishes elsewhere on the menu.
Ethereal materials drape from the ceiling adding a colour contrast to wooden benches and exposed brick walls. Hairy Hackney dwellers pile in after work, but evenings are just as buzzing – the upstairs is given over to club nights and gigs.
Best Bars tip: Be bold and order the Oslo burger, which comes with an individual shot of hot oxtail to knock back first.
