RARE is a boozy carnivore’s dream. A newcomer to Call Lane, this trendy restaurant and bar brings a unique drinking experience to the city with a vast collection of taxidermy décor, meat-garnished drinks and specialist dishes.
Drinks can be devoured in the upstairs bar or large outdoor courtyard, which both have a more relaxed vibe than the main restaurant downstairs. Wine and beer lists are pleasantly approachable with useful tasting notes, as is RARE’s impressive backbar with its accessible cocktail and spirits menu. The bar’s speed rails have replaced standard brands with the likes of Colonel Fox gin and Luksusowa vodka to offer distinctive classic serves. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous or particularly carnivorous, try something like the Gin cocktail with a pancetta garnish for that subtle meaty infusion.
Unusual drinks and interiors are reason enough to visit this quirky joint but do sample some of its tasty offerings. The sophisticated restaurant gives RARE a more high-end feel compared to its neighbours, however it’s still laid-back and never ventures on pretentious. If quality rare beef dishes can’t tempt you downstairs we’re sure Sue can. The life-size taxidermy cow is the most talked about girl about town and positioned at the heart of the restaurant, ready to (somewhat) mingle with all her drinking companions.
