Stoke Newington’s Irish pub the Auld Shillelagh brings a slice of Dublin fun to north London.
It’s all about the black stuff here – you’ll likely find the best pint of Guinness known to north London in the Shillelagh. The drink is in such strong demand that barrels are in swift rotation, keeping things crisp and fresh. Real ales and lagers are also well stocked, but it’s the Guinness that keeps punters coming back for more.
This lively local feels a million miles from London – more like a country inn, dressed in dark oak furniture and with a few subtle but suitable Irish emblems. The craic kicks off at the weekend, with screened rugby matches drawing a crowd and live folk bands raising the roof.
Best Bars tip: Karaoke nights can be quite wild at the Auld Shillelagh – the noise may entice you in off Church Street.
